About

What is TEDx

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxJerusalem, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxJerusalem event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, discussing and disseminating ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change. The organization operates from a place of curiosity, reason, wonder, and a desire for knowledge, without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in their communities.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of communities and initiatives, all around the globe, exploring everything from science and business to education, art and global issues. Beyond the TED Talks selected from the annual conferences and published on TED.com, the organization produces original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed through partnerships globally.

Every year, thousands of independently run TEDx events are held. Through The Audacious Project, TED has helped raise more than $6.6 billion for projects that are tackling the world’s most urgent challenges with bold solutions, with the aim of making the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and build a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023, TED Democracy was launched, an initiative to encourage a new kind of discourse focused on practical ways toward a more vital and equitable future.
